Location: Worldwide Customer: Medical equipment OEMs Key benefit: High flow, quick response Case study Requirement Emergency, clinical and ICU ventilators need to be reliable and comfortable for all patients – neonatal, infant and adult. There is increasing competition to make them portable as well. OEMs needed a dosing and mixing valve with high flow rates, quick response time, and good controllability. They also wanted a smaller, lighter valve that consumed less energy. Long service life was important as well. Solution The unique IMI FAS FLATPROP EQI and EQP miniature proportional valves have frictionless flat springs and plungers for response times below 10 milliseconds and high flow rates of 110 liters per minute for the FLATPROP EQI and 186 liters per minute for the FLATPROP EQP at 2 bar oxygen. Both have excellent mixing and dosing accuracy. Compared with competing valves, at just 11 cubic centimeters and 40 grams, these valves are one-quarter the size and weight use only 25 percent of the energy required so users get lower operating costs and longer batter life in portable equipment. Miniature proportional valve improves patient comfort Engineering GREAT Solutions Sector image used under license from Shutterstock.com © Norgren, Inc. 2015
